Taking exercise is an important part of our daily life. Exercise helps keep us fit and well and makes us feel better. Getting older is no excuse for stopping an exercise regime. It’s more important than ever in fact to take exercise as we age.
Exercise whilst taking HRT is especially beneficial as taking extra hormones such as HRT can sometimes have adverse effects on some women, For instance because of the constant flux in hormone levels, they may feel irritable with associated mood swings or they may feel they are gaining weight, and though there is no definite research to prove taking HRT makes a woman put on weight, the exercise she is taking can often ensure she feels better about herself.
As we get older, our metabolism usually slows down quite considerably; this means that even if we have kept slim quite naturally when younger, we often find it more of a struggle as we get older. (The dreaded middle aged spread)! Many women who have never experienced this problem can find adjusting their calorie intake to suit their body is also a struggle.
Exercise is beneficial for everyone, and when you are taking HRT doesn’t have to be strenuous. You don’t have to join a gym, and you don’t have to have the mindset of a highly trained athlete. All you need to do is ensure you are in the right mindset to tell yourself you are going to take a certain amount of exercise every week (or preferably every day).
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise, and introducing a certain amount of walking into your everyday life ensures you receive a surprising amount of exercise.
Walking to work (if that is possible), is a good way to incorporate exercise into your daily life. Especially if it takes at least twenty minutes at a good pace. You will arrive with your face and body glowing ready to face the day. Alternately if walking to work is not a good option, then if you own a dog, walking the dog briskly is not only good for you but also your dog.
Swimming is also a good exercise to take up when hormonal and taking HRT. Swimming exercises most of the body, and if you can manage to fit in a swimming session three times a week, you will discover your body soon tones up.
Taking a modicum of exercise will also assist with any mood swings or feelings of depression you may be experiencing. Exercise releases a natural feel good chemical into the blood stream which makes us feel much better.
Exercise also lessens the chances of osteoporosis and elevated blood pressure, so the sooner you start taking exercise, the sooner you will feel the benefits.
